The power of words

May 11, 2010

Okay, so I never thought I would write about this but find I have to to make my point.

What is that? you ask. What don’t you want to write about?

Night sweats. Yes, I have entered that exciting time in my life — the change.

I told my husband this morning — I am becoming a wise woman, a crone.

In this still youth worshipping culture, we are driven to hold on to youth for as long as we can — in any way we can.

I must admit I am no different. I am as vain as the next woman or man. Yet thanks to a book, thanks to an author my viewpoint is changing. The author:  Susun S. Weed. The book:  Menopausal Years:  The Wise Woman Way.

I don’t have the privilege of knowing Susun but she has changed my attitude towards aging. She has helped me see that it is a journey and an exciting one at that.

So I woke up, once again, wet. What’s going on, I thought.

I turned to Susun to explain and she didn’t disappoint. She wrote:  “Some women have no night sweats, only daytime hot flashes; some women flash only at night and hardly at all during the day; most women get a chace to experience both.”

get a chance…oh, Susun thank you. You have transformed me from a middle-aged woman having to endure to a traveller on an exciting journey.
